The Role of the S40 Gene Family in Leaf Senescence
نویسندگان
چکیده
Senescence affect different traits of plants, such as the ripening of fruit, number, quality and timing of seed maturation. While senescence is induced by age, growth hormones and different environmental stresses, a highly organized genetic mechanism related to substantial changes in gene expression regulates the process. Only a few genes associated to senescence have been identified in crop plants despite the vital significance of senescence for crop yield. The S40 gene family has been shown to play a role in leaf senescence. The barley HvS40 gene is one of the senescence marker genes which shows expression during age-dependent as well as dark-induced senescence. Like barley HvS40, the Arabidopsis AtS40-3 gene is also induced during natural senescence as well as in response to treatment with abscisic acid, salicylic acid, darkness and pathogen attack. It is speculated that rice OsS40 has a similar function in the leaf senescence of rice.

In order to find out the importance of flag leaf in Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Hordea in some physiologic traits and photosynthetic and leaf senescence-related gene expression, a field experiment was carried out in Warwick University Research Farm, UK, in 2003. For more accuracy and statistical comparison of the calculated means, the experiment was carried out in 4 replicates. Random leaf samples w...
متن کاملMolecular genetic control of leaf lifespan in plants - A review
Leaf senescence constitutes the last stage of leaf development in plants and proceeds through a highly regulated program in order to redistribution of micro- and macro-nutrients from the senescing leaves to the developing/growing plant organs. Initiation and progression of leaf senescence is accompanied by massive sequential alterations at various levels of leaf biology including leaf morpholog...
متن کاملIdentification of novel genes expressed in Brassica napus during leaf senescence and in response to oxidative stress
Senescence is a genetically regulated oxidative process that involves a general degradation of cellular structures and enzymes and the mobilization of the products of degradation to other parts of the plant. The cDNA-AFLP (cDNA-Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism) analysis has been used under stringent PCR conditions afforded by ligation of adapters to restriction fragments, and the use of s...

Ethylene plays an important role in wide-ranging aspects of plant growth and development, includingfruit ripening, leaf and flower senescence. In this study, the expression patterns of two genes involved in theethylene signal transduction pathway (RhCTR1 and RhCTR2) were investigated during the flower openingstages in two Rosa hybrida cultivars, ‘Black magic’ and ‘Maroussia’, ...

Objective(s): Lipocalin2 (Lcn2) gene is highly expressed in response to various types of cellular stresses. The precise role of Lcn2 has not been fully understood yet. However, it plays a key role in controlling vital cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and metabolism. Recently it was shown that Lcn2 decreases senescence and increases proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC...
